Thought for the Day

No one ever ever won a chess game by betting on each move.
Sometimes you have to move backward to get a step forward.

Anza Borrego

The Anza Borrego Desert State Park in Southern California, and a part of the Anza-Borrego and western Colorado desert region, is a vast and intriguing land spanning much of San Diego County.
Heavy rainfall in the recent past has led to a profusion of flowers, wildflowers and cactii in the desert park. Which includes sand verbena, desert astor, monkey flower mixed in with desert paintbrush, five spots, chuparosa, and poppies.

Publish or Perish!

This is what I think today's professors should be telling their students, instead of exhorting them to publish more -
"I don't mind that you think slowly but I do mind that you are publishing faster than you think."
-Wolfgang Pauli, physicist, Nobel laureate (1900-1958)

Of course, a look at Ph.D. comics, which is a very funny take on the typical life of a graduate student, would give you a good idea of the flip side. Then such ultimatums might actually become necessary! :)
